Upper Buller Gorge wilderness rainforests, bird watching, fly fishing
30km of spectacular rainforest, mountain and river scenery protected in the Upper Buller Gorge Scenic Reserve and Victoria Forest Park wilderness areas. The historic Lyell Goldfield and Lyell Walkway are located in the Gorge. The Gorge begins about 10km west of Murchison close to where the Maruia River joins the Buller River. Both rivers provide excellent fly fishing. Kakariki Wilderness self catering South Island accommodation is located in a 680 acre private nature reserve on terraces 150m - 300m above both the Buller Gorge and Highway 6, 12km west of Murchison and provides abundant opportunities for bird watching. |
